Indigenous communities are more than just land or the people on it; they are the relationships with each other and the living ecosystems we call home. While Indigenous Peoples account for an average of only 6% of the world population, they consider approximately one-quarter of the earth’s land area as home and are the protectors of 80% of the biodiversity on the planet. In Indigenous cultures, family units go beyond the traditional nuclear family living together in one house. Families are extensive networks of strong, connective kinship; they are often entire communities.
The Weaving Roots Foundation recognizes the colossal impact, strength, and responsibility of Indigenous communities in Canada and is committed to providing funding resources for a broad range of efforts to strengthen, heal and revitalize Indigenous communities.
